It was an incredible year of squash on the PSA World Tour, as the world’s greatest players contested countless electrifying matches all over the world.

Check out part one of our picks for the best squash matches of 2021. We’ve got ridiculous rallies, scandalous shots, and THAT Mostafa Asal celebration!

Joel Makin v Mohamed ElShorbagy
CIB PSA Black Ball Squash Open 2021 Quarter Final

Our first match in the series, and what a belter it was!

Wales’ World No.9 Joel Makin went into this match knowing only a career-best performance would be enough to down Egypt’s World No.2 Mohamed ElShorbagy.

In a 91-minute thriller, both men would have match ball in the final, who would be the one to convert?

Lisa Aitken v Hania El Hammamy
CIB PSA Black Ball Squash Open 2021 Round Two

Staying in Cairo, we go to Aitken v El Hammamy, who met in the second round of the CIB Black Ball Open.

World No.5 El Hammamy went into the match full of confidence, as it was in this venue that the Egyptian won her maiden Platinum title one year earlier.

Scotland’s Aitken, meanwhile, went into the match ranked World No.40 and had played a bruising 61-minute encounter against Lucy Turmel – in which the 31-year-old had battled back from two games down to win 3-2 – the previous day.

Could Aitken produce a shock? Or would El Hammamy prove too strong?

Miguel Rodriguez v Marwan ElShorbagy
Allam British Open 2021 Quarter Final

Miguel Rodriguez, the Colombian Cannonball, will always hold a special place in the minds of British squash fans after his stunning title win in the 2018 edition against Mohamed ElShorbagy.

This time, it was Mohamed’s brother, World No.5 Marwan ElShorbagy, who stood in his path.

In a match as memorable for the rampant celebrations at the end as for the quality of the play, this clash went down as an instant classic.

Sabrina Sobhy v Joelle King
Allam British Open 2021 Round Three

What a match this was between the USA’s World No.21 Sabrina Sobhy and New Zealand’s World No.8 Joelle King!

In a see-saw match that went all the way, the speed of Sobhy and the skill of King were put to the test in a five-game thriller in Hull.

Who would come out on top?

Tarek Momen v Mostafa Asal
U.S. Open Final

Egypt’s 20-year-old Mostafa Asal, one of the game’s most enigmatic figures, went into this match ready to make history. Win, and the World No.10 would become the youngest ever U.S. Open champion.

Standing in Asal’s path, though, was his formidable compatriot, the 2019 World Champion Tarek Momen.

Championship ball down in game four, it looked like history and a first Platinum title would evade the Raging Bull. Could he produce one of the all-time-great comebacks?
