Colombia’s Laura and Maria Tovar will meet in the final of the Squash Inn Classic – Sonspored by Faltami on Sunday evening in Mexico City, after the pair came through their respective semi-final contests.
Laura is the top seed for the Challenger 3 level tournament, and the World No.155 took the first game of her last four clash with No.3 seed Diana Gasca on a tie-break, winning it 12-10.
The Mexican fought back though to win the second game and level the match, but from there, Tovar had everything under control, and won both the third and fourth games to move through to Sunday’s final.
She will face younger sister Maria on Sunday at the Squash Inn Club, after she got the better of No.4 seed Aileen Dominguez in straight games in the semi-finals.
Tovar was in complete control throughout the match, winning 11-7, 11-4, 11-7, and spending just 39 minutes on court compared to Laura’s 50 minute semi-final. The pair have guaranteed a first Colombian winner of the 2021-2022 season on Tour.
It will be just the second meeting between the pair on Tour, with Laura having won their only previous contest, at the Harneys BVI Squash Open in May 2019. You can watch the action from Mexico City live on the club’s Facebook page this evening.
