In a battle of the two Tovars, it was older sister Laura that came out on top in the final of the Squash Inn Classic – Sponsored by Faltami, winning in straight games over Maria to claim her maiden Tour title.
The Colombian pair were the only two non-Mexicans in the 16-strong draw for the Challenger 3 level tournament, which was held at the Squash Inn Club in Mexico City, and Laura was the one to take the victory.
She started her week with a win over wildcard Melisa Torres, before then getting the better of another wildcard, in Sofia Chavez, making it through her first two matches of the tournament without spending more than half an hour on court.
He semi-final contest was actually the longest match of the tournament, as Tovar battled it out with No.3 seed Diana Gasca for 50 minutes. She won the first 12-10, but found herself level at one game apiece. From there, though, she went on to the next two games and book her spot in the final.
She then came up against younger sister Maria in the final, and was able to claim her maiden Tour title, thanks to a straight games victory in 32 minutes, including winning the third on a tie-break.
