Top seed Ivan Perez had to fight his way back from the brink to take victory in his quarter final contest at the Santiago Open, as the top four seeds all made their way through to the semi-finals of the Challenger 5 level tournament.

The event, which is being played at Gimnasio Squash Santiago, is being held with domestic restrictions, and Perez, the World No.84, came up against No.5 seed Augusto Ortigosa in the last eight.

The first three games all went to tie-breaks, and it was Ortigosa that won the first two to take a stranglehold on the match. He claimed the first 14-12, before taking the second 12-10, and was close to causing a big upset.

However, Perez fought back, and was able to clinch the third game 12-10 to keep himself in the contest. He then went on to win the fourth 11-9, before cruising to victory in the deciding game, booking his place in the last four of the Challenger 5 event.

The World No.84 will now face No.4 seed Edmon Lopez, the former World No.47, in the semi-finals after his fellow Spaniard got the better the unseeded Pablo Dolz in the last eight.

The other semi-final in Santiago on Wednesday evening will be between No.2 seed Hugo Varela and No.3 seed Sergio Garcia Pollan, after the pair defeated Nilo Vidal and Javier Martin, respectively.

The semi-finals of the tournament take place at Gimnasio Squash Santiago on Wednesday evening, with the final being played on Thursday, February 10.
